Frank W. Abernathy, Ph.D.
(Inventor of The Burger Buddy Fat Reducer)
The story of The Burger Buddy Fat Reducer dates back to 1992 when I was in my kitchen, cooking up ground beef for spaghetti sauce. I was particularly grossed out by the amount of grease in which the cooked beef was swimming. Being of an inventive nature, I had an epiphany. Why not rinse off the fat? I put the cooked beef into a colander and proceeded to rinse it with hot water until it ran clear.
The first thing that caught my attention was the smell of the beef. It
had a mild, sweet aroma, quite unlike the pungent semi-rancid smell with
which we are too familiar with. My next question (and probably yours) was
simply, “What did this do to the taste of the beef”? I mixed it in with
the sauce and poured it over the spaghetti. To my surprise, it tasted like...well
spaghetti with meat sauce! Even better, I found out later in the evening
that the sauce was being very kind to my digestive tract. I concluded that
removing semi-rancid fat from cooked meat was a good idea after all!
My next thought was, “If this works for ground beef, why not use it for
hamburgers as well?” I did extensive independent laboratory testing to
determine the best method for getting as much fat out of hamburgers as
possible. I also did "hamburger parties" so as many people as
possible could try out this new process. All were pleased that the
hamburgers tasted better after processing than before.
Eventually, I was awarded a U.S. patent on a process used to remove the
fat from cooked meat like hamburgers, sausages and other kinds of fatty
meats. The road from the Patent Office to The
Burger Buddy Fat Reducer has been a long and arduous journey, and
could be the subject of an entire book. However, suffice it to say that
the journey has been completed. It is now up to you, the consumer, to reap
the benefits of all of this work. For a price around $20 you can have a
very simple kitchen utensil that takes up very little room on the shelf
or in the dishwasher; a utensil that will turn a fatty hamburger into a
heart-healthier, more digestible steakburger.
